Transport

Transportation is moving (transporting) people or goods from place A to place B. In the case of goods transport, transport can be carried out by various means of transport. By land, this can be by bus, truck or train. By water, it can be by barge or container ship and by air by plane. The choice of transport type depends on the size and packaging type of the goods, the destination and when the transport needs to be at this destination.

Companies that organise transport for clients (shippers) are carriers or freight forwarders. Freight forwarders are intermediaries who do not necessarily provide the transport themselves with their own means of transport but place transport orders with transport companies, shipping companies or airlines.

What is a carrier?

Transporters specialise in transporting goods. To this end, transport licences are required to operate as a transporter. For instance, for transporters operating internationally in professional road haulage, a Euro licence is a requirement. Transport companies that also operate in countries outside the EU, a CEMT licence is recommended.

Transporters and forwarders are increasingly using a digital transport management system (TMS) to support the export of goods transport. In a TMS, the preparation and planning of routes can be recorded and adjusted, the progress of a transport can be consulted and communicated, and the financial and administrative handling of a transport can be provided. Above all, more and more relevant data is extracted from the TMS to work smarter and more efficiently and provide management information on which a company can be managed and remain successful.

Exhibition logistics

Exhibition transport refers to the transportation of exhibition materials to and from exhibitions and events. The logistical organisation of trade fair transport or the transport of goods for an event requires specialism and expertise. Without exception, these shipments are time-critical and/or urgent. Trade fair deliveries must be first time right at all times; after all, subsequent delivery is not an option.

With TBB, your trade fair deliveries are in trusted hands.

Euro licence

A Euro licence is a mandatory entrepreneurial licence for transport companies operating in road haulage. The licence allows companies to transport goods for a fee within the European Union using vehicles with a load capacity of 500kgs or more. Transport outside the EU requires other licences (such as the CEMT licence). Permits are issued by the NIWO (National and International Road Transport Organisation). The NIWO is the licensing authority in the Netherlands for road transport. A permit is valid for 5 years and can be renewed after those 5 years.

To qualify for a Euro Permit, several conditions must be met:

  • The transport company must be registered with the Chamber of Commerce and (obviously) have 1 or more of its own vehicles.
  • The creditworthiness must be sufficient, which is checked before a licence is issued. A company is creditworthy the moment sufficient financial resources are available to properly start and continue the business.
  • Thereby, professional competence is checked. The business, in particular the deployment and planning of vehicles, should be managed by a transport manager with the necessary qualifications.
  • Finally, reliability of the company must be demonstrated through the VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct). This is granted by the Ministry of Justice and Security. The VOG must be no more than 2 months old at the time of submitting the application.

TBB Express has already met the above conditions since 2014 and has also held the Euro licence since then.
