Standards and sizing in the logistics process

In logistics and transport, it is always about moving goods from point a to point b. Dimensions, volume and weight are inextricably linked to this. Indeed, within logistics, volume, based on dimensions, determines how much space it takes up. The dimensions of a shipment or cargo are therefore used to calculate a transport. Think of loading metres in road transport. Here we take a closer look at the different dimensions, formats and sizes within the world of logistics.

What is a loading meter?

A standardised measure in road transport. A loading metre is 1 metre of the longitudinal loading area of a truck. Due to the width of a truck of around 2.40 m, 1 loading metre roughly corresponds to 2.4 m² (2.40 m width x 1 m length).

Pallet sizes

What is a Europallet?

A Europallet is a pallet made according to certain standards. Its size is 80 x 120 cm (like most other pallets in Europe). Of importance with a Euro pallet is the quality standard. A Europallet can be recognised by the brand mark EUR in one of the blocks.

How big are block pallets?

A pallet measuring 100 x 120 cm is also called a block pallet. These pallets may have continuous beams or blocks between the top and bottom. There are pallets for reuse, to which a deposit is attached, and pallets for one-time use.
